Abstract:

  1. Evaluate whether specific lesion descriptors (i.e., mass margins and shape, calcification morphology and distribution) are associated with cancer among women whose mammograms were classified as probably benign.
  2. Evaluate whether breast density, patient age, use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), or exam type (i.e., screening vs. diagnostic based on clinical symptoms) modifies the association between lesion descriptors and cancer
  3. Determine among women with probably benign findings who develop cancer, the proportion who were detected by a positive finding at the six month follow-up mammogram.
