Abstract:
Short-term HRT cessation prior to receipt of a screening mammogram has the possibility of reducing breast density and improving mammography performance. Our hypothesis is that cessation of HRT one or two months prior to a screening mammogram improve its performance by decreasing breast density.
Primary aims are to test:
- Whether hormone therapy cessation 1 or 2 months before a screening mammogram reduces the likelihood of receiving a recommendation for additional evaluation compared to women who continue using hormone therapy.
- Whether duration of hormone therapy cessation affects the likelihood of receiving a recommendation for additional evaluation.
- Whether breast density changes among women by trial arm.
